Miles today 56, running total 413
Today was not as bad as we thought it would turn out. We set off in rain at 9.30am up the A49 – we will be on this trunk road all day. Traffic was not as bad as we thought and past Whitchurch we saw a sign that is ‘music to the ears’ of cyclists: ROAD AHEAD CLOSED. This means closed to traffic other than cyclists(or so we thought – see below) and the next 10 miles of the A49 we had to ourselves.
in deepest 'WAG' country: the nether regions of Cheshire |
The problem was a collapsed bridge and a snooty farmers wife would not let us pass through her field to avoid the road works with a ‘cock and bull’ story about bulls in fields. Well, bulls in Hampshire are about the size of horse with a couple of horns up front. These ‘ bulls’ were the size of a dog, had white curly hair and went ‘Baa’. After pleading with bridge repair people they relented and let us past the road works thus avoiding a 10 mile detour.
On and into Cheshire with the raining clearing up but the weather remaining overcast.
into Cheshire (apologies for the lorry) |
Eventually cycled into Warrington and crossed the Mersey.
crossing the Mersey at Warrington |
Tonight’s Travelodge is ‘badged up’ as in Warrington but is actually in Wigan. I must confess I didn’t realise that Warrington has some kind of cache greater than Wigan.
this picture will be of absolutely no interest to anyone....except Damon! |
For Mick Speed’s benefit I have an amusing story to tell about someone’s navigation skills, but on the basis that I will require a lift home from JOG it cannot be related on this blog and will be retold later.
What, no ferry cross the Mersey? Great going, keep the updates coming as there are a a few of us checking in :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Jinglefish, you better avoid the blog on Sunday since we propose giving an update on the state of everybody's bums!
